More progress, with a Twist

I'm continuing the archeological dig through the layers of my sewing table. Today I uncovered five mending projects: three pairs of pants and two shirts, all belonging to my sweet hubby, all needing very minor fixes, and all have been waiting for attention since before the move.

I did get one project finished today, because I really needed the lift that comes with completing something. It was something I hadn't tried before: a twist-front top from Wild Ginger's new PatternMaster Knits program.

Let's just say that this one won't be part of my regular wardrobe. And therein lies yet another frustration: I see pictures of garments that look terrific on a wide assortment of bodies... except mine. I have no idea why. With this one, I think it's the deep Vee neckline that just isn't flattering. And I don't like the sleeves, either; they're too long and too floppy. Serves me right for not checking the settings before printing out the pattern.

So, progress is being made. Thanks to all of you for your wonderfully supportive comments; they really do help keep me motivated.

  1. I'm with you -- the fabric is pretty cool, but the twist, well, it wouldn't work for me, either!

  2. You know, I like the deep v-neck on you. But I think that if you could alter the pattern to be a bit smaller and to sit closer to your neck around your shoulders and back, it would flatter you more. I love that printed fabric, too!

  3. Welmoed, I agree about the sleeves-my first thought. Like the fabric and the twist. Keep up and I just purged a lot of patterns that have been gathering dust in a big moving box forever.

  4. I'm with Remnant. The key to a deep Vee is the fit of the shoulders and back. (a well fitted bra is a big help as well - LOL!!)

  5. Thanks for the comments. This style is meant to have the twist right smack between "the girls", and I don't have a bra that goes deep enough. I've cut down the sleeves and hope to give it another go this evening.

  6. I have the same problem with my body - things just don't look good on me. I like the sleeves, but, for me at least, they would get in the way.
I am working on organizing my sewing room this summer, too. Seems like it doesn't take long to get out of control.

  7. Wilmoed, I like the blouse minus the sleeves. I don't like sleeves that "flop" around too much and these are too full for my taste. I like the deep v and think it looks nice on you, but can see that it may feel a bit "slippery/dangerous" with such a wide neck. It actually just looks a bit too large on you in the neck area. I hope it will be salvagable.
